"Mermaid Character Design Project"

Combining the story of The Little Mermaid and environmental concerns, I explore two mermaid characters -- Clementine and Clover.

Firstly, Clementine:

The main character! She's young, spunky, and imaginative. A naïve dreamer. Her main hobby is collecting lost items, clothing, and accessories of human origin, forgotten in the depths of the ocean. She's curious about humans and doesn't believe they are as bad as the mermaid community makes them out to be! Clementine has limited knowledge of human life and tends to use her wild imagination to invent fictional human activities. Her goals are to learn more about these land-dwellers and earn the pride and acceptance of her big sister.

Now, Clover:

Clementine's big sister. No-nonsense. Her goals are to become influential and an icon of mermaid fashion. She sees her little sister as an annoyance and disapproves of her obsession with everything human. She agrees with the mermaid community's perspective that humans are "terrible monsters that dispose of their slimy garbage into Earth's beautiful oceans." She tries her best to reform Clementine into a model mermaid and less of a black sheep (black squid?), but her little sister continues to rebel from the traditional.
